The dynamicTAO Reflective ORB

dynamicTAO was developed at the University of Illinois from 1998 to 2000. It is still used in a few projects (such as here and here ) on Solaris and Linux but we are no longer developing and maintaining it. In particular, the Windows version has some build problems (we need a volunteer to fix it, would you?).

In 2000, the dynamicTAO ideas were reimplemented in LegORB and, in 2001, in UIC-CORBA, a 3^rd generation reflective ORB for machines with limited resources (see below). In addition, it seems that some of the innovations of reflective ORBs are now being incorporated into a few commercial ORBs.

- The files dTAO2K.11.14.2000.tar.gz (10.3M) and dTAO2K.11.14.2000.zip (16MB) (updated: 7/18/2002) contain the latest version of dynamicTAO. For the .tar.gz, on Windows, you need to apply this patch.
  After extracting the files, Read ACE_wrappers/README.2k. Tomonori's dynamicTAO for TAO1.0 page explains a few details about of the latest version.
- The file GUI.java contains the dynamicTAO ConfigAgentBuilder that can be used to create and send configuration/inspection agents to a collection of distributed ORBs. The README explains how it works.
- The file Doctor.zip contains Doctor, the Dynamic ORB Configuration Tool that is used to configure dynamicTAO interactively.
